The President of Vanuatu His Excellency Mr Baldwin Lonsdale today officially opens the 18th annual Pasifika Medical Association Conference in partnership with the Vanuatu Medical and Dental Association and in conjunction with the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the Warwick Le Lagon Resort.

The conference participants were greeted with a warm welcome. But His Excellency appeared visibly taken aback by the devastation of cyclone Pam at his speech.

At this address he greeted the conference participants in Ni-Van style including the medical specialists from the Pacific, Australia and New Zealand.

His Excellency spoke about the vulnerability of the people of Vanuatu following cyclone Pam’s devastation.

This conference comes at a very important time for Vanuatu and our people.”

Although cyclone Pam has destroyed our Island physically, it did not destroy us mentally and spiritually.”

Beyond the darkness there is always light and Vanuatu will bounce back stronger than ever following the cyclone’s aftermath.”

I encourage the conference participants to share their experiences on certain health issues affecting the Pacific Islands and take some time off to enjoy our Island.”

The delegates will deliberate over the next two days on health matters.

Various workshops will be included as part of the Conference with more than 300 delegates from across the region in Port Vila this week.
