Uto Bulabula initiative prepares thirteen children for critical cardiac operations
Updates / News, 25 Jul 24
Living Our Best Lives | Under the transformative Uto Bulabula initiative, young patients have undergone pre-operative clinical assessments to ensure they are ready for their life-saving cardiac surgeries.

Paediatrician, Dr Maryanne Kora’ai, speaks on the critical importance of the clinical day.

“We present each patient and review the images sent last week to the surgeon and cardiologist. We discuss any concerns before the patient arrives, ensuring no detail is overlooked.

"Our team thoroughly assesses and reassures each patient, followed by one-on-one consultation with the surgeon, who explains the procedure and crucial details about the surgery."

Thanks to the expert evaluations by paediatric heart surgeon, Dr Kirsten Finucane and paediatric cardiologist, Dr John Wright, all thirteen children have been successfully cleared for their life-saving cardiac surgeries.

The Uto Bulabula - Healthy Hearts initiative is funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and coordinated by the Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) Group, through the New Zealand Medical Treatment Scheme.
