“Super Saturday” vaccination event - connecting with our rural Pacific communities
Updates / Events, 3 Aug 22
One of the key locations for The Pasifika Super Saturday Community Vaccination Event happening this Saturday on the 6th of August is the rural township of Ashburton. Located just over an hour outside of Christchurch, the families in Ashburton are part of a growing rural community so it is important that they have the same level of access to vaccinations to ensure their families stay safe and protected over this winter period.

The Fale Pasifika O Aoraki Trust (Fale Pasifika) is one of the organisations joining forces with Etu Pasifika to make this Super Saturday Community Vaccination Event a success. Fale Pasifika is an essential partner as they are the main contact point and health provider for our communities who live rurally in Ashburton.

Ashburton College is hosting the Pasifika Super Saturday Community Vaccination Event from 10.00am-3.00pm and both Etu Pasifika and Fale Pasifika O Aoraki team members will be present to administer the vaccinations and also offer advice on anything related to the medication.

Ashburton has the largest number for Pacific people out of all the local surrounding rural townships that cover the Selwyn and Aoraki districts. Mrs Terisa Tagicakabau, Operations Manager for Fale Pasifika feels strongly about the rural Pacific families having access to free community events like Super Saturday.

“The issue for our people out rurally is isolation. By living in smaller towns, it becomes harder to access healthcare. Having a community health event like this allows our people to have easier access to services that support their health over the winter.”

Mrs Tagicakabau also sees this as an opportunity for other members of the Pacific community who reside rurally to get to know their team in person so that they’re aware that if health tragedies strike in their families, Fale Pasifika are there to support them in the health and wellbeing of their families.

‘We want people who we haven’t reached yet in our Pasifika communities to know we are here and the ones who already know to remember we are still and always will be here to support them.

Let’s connect this Saturday, we are looking forward to seeing everyone who comes down.”
