PMA Knowledge Hub Summer Research Scholarship Applications Open
Updates / News, 12 Jul 23
The PMA Knowledge Hub Summer Research Scholarship is being launched through a collaboration between the Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) and the University of Auckland. This scholarship aims to support Pacific students in conducting summer research projects that seek to improve the health and social wellbeing outcomes of Pacific peoples.

Director of Knowledge at PMA, Seini Jensen, explains the importance that this opportunity provides for students.

"The summer studentships allow us to identify and connect with up-and-coming Pacific student researchers, introduce them to the Pacific Whanau Ora body of research evidence, and develop small research projects with them to further both Whanau Ora and Pacific research and help build students' research skills and experience.”

Mrs Jensen highlights several benefits that students will acquire through their involvement in the Summer Research Scholarship.

“Students can establish connections within the Pacific research sector. They also develop a deep understanding of the Whanau Ora evidence and model of care while gaining hands-on experience in conducting a small Pacific research project. All these are supported by experienced Pacific researchers, ensuring a fruitful learning experience.”

PMA Group Board Director and co-director of Te Poutoko Ora a Kiwa (Centre for Pacific and Global Health), Sir Collin Tukuitonga, says this opportunity serves as a stepping stone for many who aspire to become future research leaders.

“Students should choose a topic of personal interest and embrace research as a means to discover the answers they seek.”

The PMA Knowledge Hub Summer Research Scholarship is now open for applications, welcoming Pacific students who are passionate about advancing the health and social wellbeing of Pacific communities. There are three research projects available, lasting for a duration of 10 weeks.
