Our hearts are deeply saddened to learn of the untimely death of Rev Sione Tavake Tupou who died on Saturday, January 16.
“On behalf of the Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) and its many members in New Zealand and the Pacific region, we wish to extend our sincere condolences to Rev Tupou’s wife, Hekuo’au and children and extended families during this difficult time of mourning,” says PMA chief executive Mrs Debbie Sorensen.
Mrs Sorensen says that PMA shares the sense of grief and wishes to pay tribute to this great man who has achieved, in his lifetime, much more than any of us can ever aspire to.
“Rev Tupou has given so much to the Tongan community in New Zealand and in his role as a Minister and a church leader. He took care of so many families. He was a pioneer in the Tongan community.”
“He was always very supportive of PMA’s work and preached such a powerful message of support, commitment and the service we provide to our families in the Pacific health sector.”
Mrs Sorensen said Rev Tupou was essentially our spiritual leader, mentor, wise adviser inspirational leader and a very dear friend. We will miss him greatly.”
“Rev Tupou was the type of church Minister who you could always approach if you needed advice or support. His spiritual advice motivated our organisation and his humble personality and kind words inspired everyone he met. He is going to be sorely missed.”
“Our prayers are with the Tupou family during this very difficult time,” says Mrs Sorensen.
