More than 200 health practitioners, doctors, nurses, policy makers, academics, advocates, and frontline health workers gathered in Auckland for the Pasifika Medical Association 20th Anniversary Conference which ended today.
Pasifika Medical Association Chief Executive Debbie Sorensen says the three day conference was a success and will create substantial health benefits for New Zealand and the Pacific region.
“It has been a very successful 20 year anniversary conference.”
“The PMA conference was a fantastic opportunity for knowledge exchange.”
“The legacy of PMA made in the last 20 years will continue to make a significant contribution to improving the health of Pacific people.”
“We have made great strides in New Zealand and the Pacific over the training programmes, research, conferences and advocacy and we are the largest cohort of Pacific health professionals in the region.”
The Association will keep attention focused on the actions needed to progress in the long struggle against health problems faced by Pacific communities in the region.
“It was incredible celebration and I am sure will remain one of the most memorable event in the PMA Conferences ever,” says Mrs Sorensen.
“We hope many young people will join our Association.”
“We are indebted and honoured to have most of our members and health professionals from Pacific Island countries to join us in our 20-year celebration.”
There already talks that the next PMA conference will be held in New Caledonia.
