PMA Charity Ball 2022 successfully raises funds for future Pacific health workforce
Updates / News, 29 Sep 22
The Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) annual Charity Ball was recently held at Te Papa Museum’s Amokura Gallery in Wellington. The sold-out gala event featured live music, fine dining and an auction, and all together raised over $155,000 towards PMA’s Education Fund.

PMA’s Education Fund provides scholarships to help support Pacific students and health professionals in their field of study or work.

PMA CEO, Mrs Debbie Sorensen, reiterated this purpose on the night with her opening address.

“Our Education Fund goes towards scholarships and the funds raised here allows us to maintain our commitment to growing our health workforce.

We’ve just had our PMA Conference and we held a student leadership day for our Pacific students aspiring towards careers in health and medicine. They are our future and it was an important reminder that we must continue to support them as best as we can.”

This year, PMA awarded 32 scholarships, with this number looking to grow throughout the coming years as more Pacific students continue to pursue careers in health and medicine.

PMA Memberships Board Chair, Dr Jitoko Cama (FRACS), was grateful for the support by attendees.

“We are thankful for everyone’s support because it allows us to fulfill our purpose in creating opportunities for our aspiring doctors, nurses and health professionals.

Growing our workforce requires a collective effort so we are incredibly grateful for everyone’s contribution.”
