It was a day of celebration and fun with families, netball clubs and even work teams coming together to take part.
There were also over 1,600 people that attended the inaugural event which included participants, supporters, and officials.
The weather conditions were immaculate making for a perfect day of netball.
This is just another way that Moana Pasifika and the Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) Group are working to provide a platform for inclusiveness, participation and impact through community sports events.
PMA Group CEO, Debbie Sorensen, began the ceremony with a brief address to the players, supporters, and attendees.
"Today is a wonderful day for netball, and it’s great to see everyone here this morning enjoying the game. We have teams from all over Auckland, and it’s especially impressive to see a team come all the way from Northland to participate in this tournament."
Mrs Sorenson also highlighted the importance of netball in the community.
"We have incredible talent in New Zealand, and it’s fantastic to host an event that showcases these skills."
PMA Group Sports Strategy Manager, Rose Ah Mau, says it was great to see everyone get involved not only in netball but also the various activities throughout the day.
“What an amazing display from our communities, we were so pleased to see so many families on Saturday from our babies, our youth, our parents to our elders, having fun participating and spectating,” Ah Mau said.
“It was wonderful at the opening ceremony to see all the teams dressed in their Pacific wear all excited and eager to participate.”
“We had a great shoot out competition during the day to win netball shoes from Asics that were kindly donated. It was fantastic to see all our youth get involved and have fun together.”
Moana Pasifika’s next sports tournament is the annual 7s Cup on December 7. You can register your interest here.
