The Pasifika Medical Association Board confirmed on Monday that Mrs Melissa Fidow has been appointed as their new Executive Officer.

“I am very pleased to appoint Melissa Fidow to this role, which is vital to the management of the Pasifika Medical Association,” says PMA President Dr Kiki Maoate.

“Melissa has a real focus on implementing and driving the strategy of the Pasifika Medical Association. Her experience working closely and effectively with key partners in New Zealand and the Pacific region will serve the PMA well.”

Dr Maoate says the PMA Board are pleased to have been able to appoint someone of Melissa’s calibre and she will be an important asset to the Association as they move the business forward.

“The role of Executive Officer is critical and Melissa has the ability to manage and keep the business running on the ground. Her experience in international health development and disaster response along with her strong networks will guide the Association towards the achievement of established goals.”

Melissa returned recently from a post in Geneva, Switzerland at the World Health Organisation and was the Emergency Medical Team Coordinator in the response to Cyclone Pam, in Vanuatu.

The New Zealand born Samoan has a Bachelor of Communication Studies degree and currently manages the New Zealand Medical Treatment Scheme in Tonga, Fiji, Kiribati, Tuvalu and Vanuatu, for Health Specialists Ltd, a New Zealand registered company specialising in international health consulting and project management.
