Celebration and reflection: The PMA Charity Ball 2022
Updates / Events, 29 Jul 22
The crown jewel in the Pasifika Medical Association’s (PMA) events calendar – The annual Charity Ball has had a two-year hiatus due to the global pandemic but is set to return this year and is a chance to fundraise for a great cause that has a positive impact for the whole Pacific community.

“The PMA Charity Ball raises money for their Education Fund that was established in 2018. The Education Fund provides study awards to support secondary and tertiary students focused on a career in health. PMA has awarded over $500,000 in scholarships to 71 Pacific tertiary and secondary students.

This includes providing opportunities for Pacific region-based doctors and nurses to undertake an international short course or study tour”, says PMA Membership board director Dr Lupe Taumoepeau (FRACS).

This upcoming PMA Charity Ball is also an occasion for many in the health profession to reconnect and reflect in person on their work during the height of Covid-19, as many of them were at the coal face of the pandemic.

“Many will welcome this long overdue opportunity to gather in person. We have faced a lot of challenges together and the importance of the PMA Education Fund to build capacity and capability of our workforce will ensure that Pacific people continue to lead the delivery of their own successful health outcomes with purpose and excellence”, adds Dr Taumoepeau.

The PMA Charity Ball will be at Te Papa Museum in Wellington this year and will be held on the closing day of the annual PMA Conference. Dr Lupe promises that just as in previous years this will be a glamour event with great food, entertainment and one of the highlights for the evening – a live auction.

“The Charity Ball will be a grand Pacific celebration and will include dinner, drinks, entertainment and for those generous and competitive personalities out there - you will have the opportunity to bid for some amazing items generously donated by various organizations and individuals supporting PMA and the Education Fund. Don’t miss out!”

The PMA Charity Ball is on Tuesday 06 September 2022 at Te Papa Museum in Wellington. To buy tickets including tables of ten please click on the following link - https://membership.pacifichealth.org.nz/PMA-Charity-Ball-2022
