Updates / News, 31 Aug 22
In a recent interview with 531 P.I Pacific Morning’s, Dr Lupe Taumoepeau (FRACS) gave some insights about the upcoming Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) Conference 2022.

“Our four key themes across the conference are Reconnect, Reflect, Reframe, and Re-energise. There are lots of innovations and research that our pacific health providers and medical and nursing students are showcasing at the conference. They will highlight the excellent work that they do in the community.

The Conference is also an opportunity for everybody to improve the quality of care that we’re providing to our pacific community”.

Dr Taumoepeau will be the Conference Convener and as the first female in New Zealand to become a vascular surgeon and the only Pacific vascular surgeon in Australasia, she is leading by example and will be a role model for many attending the conference.

“I’m really excited whenever I come across Pacific Medical Students and one of the amazing things that I’ve been able to witness over my time is the growing number of Pacific Medical Students coming through the medical profession”.

Dr Taumoepeau also shared about the importance of the Charity Ball which fundraises for the PMA Education Fund that provides annual scholarships for Pacific medical and nursing students and professionals.

“The charity ball is our main fundraiser for the PMA Education Fund. This is about championing excellent healthcare professionals. It has been a way for us to award scholarships to both tertiary and secondary school students who want to pursue careers in healthcare.”
