The 18th annual Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) in partnership with the Vanuatu Medical and Dental Association and in conjunction with the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (RANZCP) is creating a stir by bringing together Pacific health professionals to tackle many of the biggest health challenges Pacific people face.

The Chief Executive Officer of Pasifika Futures Limited, Debbie Sorensen accepted the Royal Order of the Crown of Tonga Commander award from His Majesty King Tupou VI of Tonga, at an investiture ceremony leading up to the July 4 coronation in Tonga.

Having been at the forefront of improving health and wellbeing of Pacific people in New Zealand since 1996, Pasifika Medical Association (PMA) has been selected to set up Pasifika Futures.

Minister of Pacific Island Affairs Peseta Sam Lotu-Iiga hosted a function in Parliament’s Grand Hall as part of the 17th Annual Pasifika Medical Association Conference – Transformation through Whanau Ora held in Wellington from 27-29 August 2014.

In search of “that missing something” from her career, Seini Jensen joined the team at Pasifika Medical Association. Three years on, she has not only found satisfaction from the work she does, but she has also found her calling, using evidence and evaluation to help the Pacific community in New Zealand to improve their lives in the holistic sense. In the newly appointed role as Director of Performance and Evaluation of Pasifika Futures (a new company established as the commissioning agency for the Pacific Whanau Ora initiative), preparing to attend a course at the prestigious Harvard University, talks about her personal development and what the role means to her.
